Up front disclosure: I received this hair care from the Stellar Product Testing Panel to use and provide an honest review. About me and my hair: I'm a 50+ yr old gal with a super thick head of highlighted, menopausal (dry/frizzy) hair. I like really good hair products at a good price. By "really go...od", I mean that I like the best ingredients I can find that do what I need them to do at an affordable price. I like that Hot Tools kept this popular opinion in mind when creating the Pro Artist Restorative Heat line of shampoo and conditioner. Additionally, except in extreme sweaty or dirty hair conditions, I am able to wash my hair once a week to maintain a healthy, fresh style. The middle of summer tends to cause the need to up my washes to 2-4 times a week which also means more hair drying and curling iron, so I was super curious as to whether this product would help with dryness, frizz, and/or damage. The Washing Observations: First, I felt the need to double the amount of shampoo bc I easily have more than double the hair of the average person. I emulsified it in my hands with a small amount of water and then applied to my hair. I noticed two things right away — 1) The texture of the shampoo was so silky that I thought I made a mistake and applied the conditioner. Nope. The shampoo just feels that way… very moisture laden and luxurious. 2) Loved the wonderful orangey citrus scent. Truly, citrus is one of my favorite smells. It's really good. Although a lot of lather is not necessary for a good cleaning shampoo, I liked the amount of suds produced by the shampoo. Once rinsed, I could easily run my fingers thru my locks even before using the conditioner. I have to say I was having high hopes that these products were a winner. I'll be leaving a separate review about the conditioner but will say I was equally as pleased with the combination of the two together. So here is where things went a little sideways. A severe thunderstorm popped up while I started drying my hair. I lost power 4 times which delayed the usual drying time and technique. Also, I typically use a 1.5" curling iron to help smooth the ends and frizzy places. Well, I kid you not, the curling iron exploded in my hand - presumably bc of a power surge from lightning. I did finally get the styling done and took a few pics, but the results didn't last. By morning my hair was so frizzy I was shocked. Even though we were without power over night and it was humid, I felt the style should've held better. Whatever the reason, I liked the initial quality of the product enough to keep using it in hopes that I can up the rating. I suspect the bizarre circumstances during the initial styling caused the disappointing results. Stay tuned. Clear skies and sleek hair are on the horizon!
